I agree, and we also like the theater and some of the restaurants. We run over there from our home in Sammamish often but avoid the commute times. When I get to the Park & Ride on the bus it's about 6aam & 4pm and not too bad yet.

If you haven't tried it yet, Bai Tong is some of the best Thai I've ever had. Impressed with the interior design and the menu selection.. the service was extremely slow though.... hoping it improves as it gets on it's feet...

I like IH. I considered moving there for awhile and spent a few weekends looking at home, lots to build a home, etc.

The highlands took a few years to build up but at least now there's a super market, movie theatre, restaurants, etc. so you don't always have to leave the Highlands to do anything.

My only drawbacks (that were mostly mentioned here) were:

1) Houses close together / crowded parking / lack of yards (although the parks sort of make up for it)

2) More snow in the winter

3) Congestion during commuting hours (especially if you try to drive down to the freeway during school time and you get stuck behind everyone dropping off their kid at Grand Ridge)

But I really liked the vibe and community feel over there so if these things don't bother you, it's great. Congrats!

I'm not sure I understand your comment about Mill Creek. Living in Mill Creek, most of my neighbors work at Boeing Everett (many Boeing engineers seem to live in Mill Creek or Mukilteo), Microsoft, Phillips, one of the area hospitals (Everett Clinic, Providence Everett, Evergreen), or at one of the many biotech/tech companies in Canyon Park or North Creek. Mill Creek is convenient to many employers, just not as convenient to Seattle as some other suburbs further south obviously. Still, I used to commute to Seattle until recently, as did plenty of others in Mill Creek judging by the traffic.

How long is the commute from Mill Creek to downtown Seattle? Is it generally considered shorter from the Issaquah/Sammamish area?
