My husband is considering a job offer from REI (in Kent). We have two young children (1 and 3.5). We have to find a good preschool for my 3.5 year old. We plan on getting some assistance with temporary housing, but not sure how much. We also need to research schools and determine where we would like to settle long-term. Where are the good elementary schools? Any suggestions on where to start living for at least 6 months? Husband is okay with 30 -40 min commute. I hope to find a job out there eventually and would like to live in a more central location so that my commute will not be terrible either. I think we can do about $400k in housing costs. Any help would great!

Look in Maple Valley and Burien...some good schools and much more home options in the price range you mentioned!

Look into the part of Renton that's within the Kent school district. Schools are very good there, better than Renton's schools in the renton school district, and better than Kent's schools in the Kent school district. It wouldn't be a horrible commute if you got a job in downtown Seattle, and there's decent bus service.
