I'm looking to move to the Seattle area. I want to find a place to rent before I buy so that I can get familiar with the area. I have a dog, a cat, and a dozen chickens--including roosters. There are folks who enjoy the sound of traffic, stereos, loud parties, and the general hum-drum of city life. I am not one of them. I like waking up to roosters cockadoodling and hearing the sounds of nature with few human overtones--in other words--country living.

How do I find such a place? Most ads are for apartments (Craig's List) or for selling, not renting. Are there rental listings for country living? I mean modest country living--nothing fancy.

Many cities limit or ban the livestock, some allow chickens but not roosters. You can usually find details on the city' website. Those areas most likely to suit you are Monroe, Snohomish, and Carnation, all do have homes for rent on lare lots and/or acreage. One relative in Monroe is on 2 acres in a small older farmhouse
for $1,200/month and has a horse and goats.

Enumclaw/Buckley in South King County, that's some country living. Close to commuting options to Seattle also.

This. Along with eastern areas of Pierce, out toward Puyallup. People I've known in these areas had barnyard residents.

South Park is the only area of Seattle I've seen Hens and Roosters. It's a very diverse neighborhood, transitioning to Hispanic or maybe the other way around, it's mostly houses and rentals should be reasonable.

The eastern parts of Kent and Auburn are pretty rural, along with Buckley, and Enumclaw. Parts of Maple Valley are still pretty rural, as well as Ravensdale and Black Diamond.

Vashon Island and Bainbridge Island. Bainbridge will be the more expensive of the two, but more convenient for getting into the city.

You don't mention if you have to be close to Seattle. Lots of options outside of the Seattle/Tacoma corridor, including the Olympic/Kitsap/Key Peninsulas, Snohomish County, Southeast King County, and east Pierce County.

Basically, the further out you are, the more likely to find "country" living.
