Well this person is visiting, I though maybe they hadn't purchased and entire wardrobe of raincoats from REI yet.

September might as well be considered summer in Seattle. It's one of our nicest months. It likely won't rain.

The San Juans are beautiful, and if you haven't been whale watching it may be worth it for you. It will take a full day. Look into the Victoria Clipper to see if they have sailings to the whales or at least to Friday Harbor, where most of the whale watching tours leave out of.

You could also kayak Lake Union at sunset. Great way to see the city from a different perspective. Fun to see the houseboats and then the city views when the sun goes down are amazing.

"I've already got my CityPass, and I'll be doing the Underground Tour. Anything else I should do?"

Since you already have the CityPass, do the Space Needle, Aquarium, and Argosy Cruises Harbor Tour. I'd do the Zoo over EMP (unless raining), and the Museum of Flight (take #124) over the Pacific Science Center.

When doing the Underground Tour, go to the Klondike Gold Rush Museum (free).

When doing the Space Needle, ride the Monorail (before or after). Visit Pike Place Market.

When doing the Argosy Harbor Tour, check out Ye Olde Curiosity Shop (free).

When doing the Aquarium, check out the Sculpture Park (free).

If doing the Zoo (take the #5), also visit the Ballard Locks (free - catch the #44 going west on 46th). Don't miss the fish ladder.

Does anyone have more off-the-beaten-path type suggestions? Or stuff that I should check out if considering moving to Seattle? My bf and I are heading to Seattle for 3 days the week before the OP is going. We've never been, but have been admiring it from afar, and are trying to figure out a good itinerary to get an idea of what living there would be like. We plan to do a ton of walking, catch a ferry to Bainbridge Island, water taxi to West Seattle, and a touristy thing or two (the Market, EMP, Needle/Sky Tower), etc. We're also going to stay at Kings Inn - we found it for less than $100/night on booking.com

I am also doing a 3-day trip this weekend. Not my first time, but it's been 20+ years. I plan on spending a day downtown (shopping eating and drinking), a day in West Seattle/water taxi/farmer's markets, eating and drinking, some time in Capitol Hill and I think that's all I have planned. I am basically acting car-free, but do have a car2go membership.

Weather can be unpredictable mid- to late-September. Good to have both indoor and outdoor activities that you can do.

For some slightly off-the-beaten path (not near the Market, Seattle Center, or Pioneer Square):

South Lake Union: MOHAI (Seattle's history museum/South Lake Union), Wooden Boat Center, rent a boat (sailboat, rowboat, canoe, kayak).

Capitol Hill: Broadway (eats and shops) , Volunteer Park Conservatory, Seattle Asian Art Museum (SAAM), Water Tower, Interlaken Park.

U District: UW Activities Center, rent a canoe/sailboat to paddle through the Aboretum or sail Union Bay/Lake Washington. Indoor: The Ave (eats, shops), Burke Museum, Henry Art Gallery

Download the Uber app so that you can get around the city without a car when walking and/or public transport aren't possible : )

I think whale watching is a great thing to do but it is a whole day affair so if your only in town for three days (and you plan on moving here) save it for another time so that you can spend time doing a diversity of things. The U District farmers market on Saturday and the Ballard Farmers market on Sunday are great places to visit and give a real flavor of the local food scene as well as an interesting cross section of the folks that live around here. Ballard is a great place to go out in too both for food and really good live music! It would definitely be on my list if I were visiting. Check out The Tractor to see who's playing!
