For all the Seattle media machine's effusive praise of Seattle's offerings to singles (though the same media is noticeably silent on actually advertising events for singles---probably because there are none to advertise), the numbers are in---and the numbers don't lie.

Highest Male/Female Ratios: States - Bloomberg Best (and Worst)

Yes, for single men, Washington State ranks an abysmal 6th: behind only such hotspots as the Dakotas and Alaska. At a nearly 13-10 ratio, it's small wonder that single men complain about the lack of options. And it likewise shouldn't surprise anyone that there really is no nightlife or singles' scenes here: a nightclub would go out of business with numbers like these.

If single women think that the numbers benefit them, they are equally out of luck. The magazine Travel and Leisure ranked 35 cities; and out of those surveyed, Seattle ranks at near bottom for:

Romantic weekend getaways (32); nightclubs (26); singles scene (30); sports bars (28); romantic escapes (20); girl's night out (28). On the culture, Seattle scores 28 in attractiveness; 29 in friendliness; and 31 in stylishness.

Of course, it should be added that the term 'Seattle Freeze' is now part of the Urban Dictionary and it can be seen why. These numbers are embarrassingly lame. But the local media will keep the true numbers prudently out of sight while the City PR Department will continue to waste tax dollars promoting an image of Seattle to singles far removed from reality.

I'll tell you what's embarrassingly lame. A guy who spends all day every day trying to think of negative posts about Seattle instead of moving. I'm sorry you can't get a date but these posts are probably not going to help your situation. Your misery is self-perpetuating. As you sit here tearfully making these posts, your missing the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful summer and meet people. Life is short; if Seattle isn't doing it for you, you should go find a place that does.

Getting out and enjoying the summer doesn't mean you'll meet people. That's the difference between Seattle, and NYC, the Bay Area, most parts of Colorado, and many other parts of the US.

Need I say more???? Calling people retarded? Really?

"Hi Ruth:
Yes---if that guy goes to Seattle, he'll fit right in! LOL

I don't know if you saw my article on the WA State forum about the fiasco legalized marijuana has turned into. I'm really beginning to believe that a lot (if not most) Seattleites are functionally retarded---who opens stores without any products? LOL"

Don't you live in, what, New Mexico? Haven't been in Seattle in say... a decade or more? The OP spending every day posting ridiculously negative posts about Seattle only feeds his bitterness and certainly isn't going to improve his social life. If he, and you, think California is the promised land, by all means, live there, no one is stopping you.

Ruth:

Wow---talk about shooting the messenger.

It's interesting that the Travel and Leisure survey gave two parallel sets of numbers; one from tourists and one from locals. The numbers I gave were the ones from the locals---i.e. how Seattleites rated themselves. Maybe they're the ones who should be looking in the mirror before they start pointing fingers, because the tourists gave them higher marks.

But---what can you say....

Seattle doesn't have any gun stores anymore , which also is really lame.. The oldest gun store, Butch's guns, shut down. Good riddance, because the guy was a real jerk and screwed his customers. However, I really wish Seattle had some decent gun stores right in the city limits and that you don't have to drive 15 min north, south or east to get to a gun shop. I guess Lake City and Shoreline have gun stores, but are those really considered Seattle?

Also, it would be nice if Seattle could host some indoor type of shooting ranges, considering how much rain there is in the city and how much fun of a hobby shooting sports are. Bellevue has an indoor shooting range and some decent gun and outdoor stores, why not Seattle? The city's political correctness is just the most abominable trait of an otherwise decent place.

On another note, Seattle probably one of the best military surplus stores I have seen West of the Cascades right across from Pike's Place Market, so, in that respect, I am impressed.

Yeah, I know Blackhawk4444 is a Seattle hater and I can respect some of his complaints. For example, Seattle is, indeed, a real man's town. Wherever you go in Seattle there is men everywhere. Because Seattle is both an IT mecca combined with an area with a large blue collar industry, it seems to be an area that attracts more males in droves. The Northwest, traditionally, also was a much more male populated area, as women would not migrate out this way, but would stay in the urban centers where they grew up.

However, if you think the single scene is bad in Seattle, Idaho is much worse.. Young men outnumber women and most people marry out of high school or very young. If you are not raised there and part of an evangelical or Mormon church, you are flat out of luck. The only girls available are bar girls who generally go from to guy to guy.

Small towns, in general, are much more male than female .. If you think Seattle is bad, almost any small town in Washington is absent of single, young women. I am amazed at how many girls I meet in Seattle who come from Anacortes, Port Angeles, Mount Vernon, Yakima, etc, etc. All the girls from around the state want to go to the big city, as the small town means no career and men who are not always the most noble.

The area has plenty of maternity wards. Perhaps my understanding of how babies are made is incorrect.
