If so, did you enjoy the experience? The views from the higher floors look like they'd be great. Yeah, it's an extravagance but I thought I might try it sometime. $300 or so I might try, but $600 for the deluxe suites I'll leave for the visiting CEOs from Asia.

I've stayed there a few times and have been upgraded before (I used to be SPG platinum when I used to travel more). The rooms are nice and the view is nice but I don't think it's worth $300...just me though.

I doubt its worth it. I've stayed in nice high rise hotels in Chicago (the W) and Las Vegas (Palazzo). Both of which are nicer than the Westin Seattle which is getting kind of dated, but even then, I didn't find it worth it. The views were quite nice, but didn't seem worth the extra coin.

I've also stayed at the Fairmont-Copley in Boston - very old school, total class.

Personally, if I were to drop a dime on a luxe hotel experience, I'd stay at a hotel owned by one of the classic luxury hotel companies - like the Ritz-Carlton or Fairmont, or if going modern, Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental. Four Seasons - Seattle looks quite nice and I'd think has better views than the Westin given its proximity to the water. Unfortunately, the Fairmont-Olympic in Seattle is only so-so - the lobby is that "grand" in terms of size & the on-site restaurant/bar isn't anything special.

When I interviewed at Amazon, they put me up at the Fairmont Olympic. I just got a standard room. The hotel lobby is nice with a great old world luxury feel but the room was tiny. I'd probably go over to the Four Seasons instead as their standard rooms were pretty nice.

I got married in 1971 and spent our honeymoon night at the Westin. The rate was $24 and that included a bottle of champagne. That was in the midst of a sever recession in Seattle when Boeing cut the work force from 104,000 to 39,000.

I don't love the Westin in Seattle (feels dated) and don't think of them as really being a luxury hotel chain. The Ritz Carleton, Fairmont and Four Seasons cater much more to that market. Some boutique hotels also do a nice job. I love The Sorrento Hotel in Seattle...

While those are nicer in many ways I guess the one thing that attracts me to the Westin is the highrise views of the upper rooms.

Well I stayed there in 2008 on one of my first visits to Seattle and I believe I paid around $125. I think I booked it on Priceline though. I had a nice room on the 27th floor with a view of the city (right down 5th avenue) and Elliott Bay.
