Planning to move to Seattle next year. I'm a musician and would like to live in an area where I can walk/bike to music venues or coffee shops that have acoustic shows etc. I've gathered that Capitol Hill is a live music hub in Seattle. Where else should I be looking?

In addition to Capitol Hill, although the hill is the obvious #1 choice - U district, Fremont, Belltown/Lower Queen Anne, Ballard, Georgetown.

A lot of neighborhoods have venues, but those neighborhoods tend to have more than average.

Default Roots music around Seattle

Ballard is probably your best bet with Conor Byrne's and the Waterwheel specializing in local roots/folk music and some open mics, the Tractor with local and touring rootsy groups, and farther up Ballard Ave, The Sunset, with a wider variety of local and touring genres.

Between Ballard and Fremont there's Molly Maguire's with local acoustic combos and open mics. In Fremont there are three bars with regular live music, including Nectar, that hosts some folk rock and occasional bluegrass.

Downtown, The Owl & Thistle regularly has local acoustic groups. Kells has Irish.

The only country western bar in Seattle is The Little Red Hen near Green Lake. Open mics on Sunday there.

Slim's Last Chance in Georgetown concentrates on rockabilly and alternative country.

I know of three: Jazz Alley has mostly touring groups. Tula's, also in Belltown, has mostly locals, as does Lucid in the U District.
