Hey y'all! So the deal is that my partner and I are originally from Kentucky but moved to Sacramento CA a little over a year ago. We still like it for the most part but what drives us crazy is the sunshine! Now, I know that sounds super weird but we grew up somewhere where all four seasons were very different and defined so constant sun gets boring. However, we love Sacramento for its food and we love being on the West Coast. So that got us to thinking about Seattle as a possible move option because, from what I've read online, it sounds like a neat town.

If you could describe Seattle in a paragraph to potential newcomers, what would you say?

Pretty much there are only 2 seasons here, rainy and summer. Today was cloudless but that's rare. Usually it's overcast or mostly cloudy from October through April. No snow last winter. I suggest make a visit here during that time, and ask yourself if you can handle that weather for at least half the year. You also need to be able to handle the high cost of living (think half of San Francisco's).

This is a pretty good description of the people. They look and act somewhat human but there's just something missing:

Seattle:

A beautiful area that has lots to do,
dreadful weather much of the time,
close-minded "liberalism" dominates the mindset,
very high cost of living.....low quality of life if you not making a lot of $$$$$,
freeways are crowded due to poor design and the geography of the area,
summers are usually gorgeous, some of the nicest in the country....but SHORT,
trees and greenery everywhere,
you may step into a bad/unsafe area and not even know, hard to identify,
very, EXTREMELY LGBT and minority friendly,
very nice waterfront and downtown area (excluding creeps, homeless and thugs.).

  • An absolutely gorgeous city set upon rolling hills abutting the water, with some of the most lush, lovely trees and vegetation you'll find in the county.
  • Chilly, gray, and drizzly from late October to April. Warms up in May. Perfect sunny, warm weather from June through September, followed by a very picturesque autumn.
  • Very congested traffic due to the difficult natural geography and narrow streets. Rush hour congestion basically shuts the city's streets down on a daily basis. Everyone prays that the grade-separated light rail system will help ease traffic one day.
  • Economically and culturally vibrant, Seattle has become "popular" as of late.
  • Construction cranes. Everywhere.
  • To classify Seattle's inhabitants:
    (1) disgruntled, older inhabitants who resent the drastic changes taking place in the city and who complain about any and all new developments;
    (2) young yuppie newlyweds with 1-2 children who practice very "hands-on" and obsessive parenting strategies, and give off a sort of new-age WASP vibe minus any religious affiliations;
    (3) your classic youthful hipsters (who are starting to be displaced by the "techies");
    (4) "techies", who are flooding into the city. As they are new to the city, they mostly hang out with coworkers, crowding most bars with little coworker clicks (mostly young guys).
