- I CAN tell you why. It is VERY expensive and hard to make it here in this dump we call Seattle. The cost of living is sky rocket high. Houses are not just inflated in price, they are goodyear-blimp-inflated in price, but even if can afford one, be certain that it is not going to be your money's worth. I am sorry but a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, with 1300 sq ft and a 1/8th acre lot in Kirkland is NOT worth $500,000 - I dont care HOW good the schools are. That is just stupid.

They have mercy halls and what not, I am sure alot of them are being taken care of by tourists too. It is sad and heart breaking, but the reality is that it is not their fault.

There are more people living here than there are affordable houses, apartments, duplexes etc.
A few months ago I reseached this, but it was just as background for a different topic so I did not save most of the stats, but it is at least double what you posted. 10,000 or so. It has changed rapidly as the result of the rapidly ballooning (bubbling?) housing costs and homeless vets.

Search for: One Night Count. On January 30th of every year volunteers get together and count how many homeless people are in Seattle/King County area. Something like 800+ volunteers in 125 groups counted 2,826 men, women, and children homeless there. A good resource for the homeless who want to get their life back is The Millionair Club Charity. They give hot meals, job skills, eye care, hygiene facilities. Its good check it out.
