I'm working in CA right now, and I've been here all 30 years

I've decided to undertake some additional training and classes in order to enter a very specialized field in my company, and we have offices in Bothell

If I make it, I'll be commanding a a fairly healthy salary within 5 years

What is the area like? What is there to do? How exclusive / available is property along the water? What is the weather like? How is the food? How does the area compare to a place like Portland? San Francisco? What is the entertainment like? Are venues nearby?

Etc, etc

Thanks

Waterfront property in Bothell is on the Sammamish River. It ranges from a few older homes to apartments and a fairly large trailer park. It's not particularly desirable since much of it is swampland. Comparing it to Portland, it's more like Beaverton, very suburban.

You can work in Bothell but live on waterfront property in Kirkland, Bellevue, or even Seattle. Sammamish is fine too but a little further away.

Seattle metro is an expensive area in general, but not nearly as expensive as the Bay Area. Bothell is one of the less expensive cities but like any other, water views add to the price of housing, and waterfront adds even more. Since it doesn't reach Lake Washington and there are very few homes on the river, you might look at Kirkland, from Inglewood area and south to Yarrow Bay.

Bothell is pretty suburban, although does have a fairly quaint downtown. There are lots of redevelopment projects in various stages:

Bothell Landing Redevelopment Update

Good number of areas, from more urban to more rural, from which you could commute to Bothell:

More urban: Northeast Seattle, Kirkland, downtown Bellevue, Edmonds, Everett.
More rural: Duvall, Monroe, Snohomish.

There's also Swamp Creek and maybe a few others.

My cousin lives on a waterfront property up in that area, and her place has been flooded a few times.

Thanks for all the info!

$2,000 to rent a 2200 SQ 4 bedroom waterfront home ... wow

Here's what you get in the Bay Area: Large 1 bd, 1 bath updated condo

? That doesn't sound at all realistic unless it's an 'odd scenario' or on a swamp.

Oh. Lake Stevens. Not a swamp, but so far out that it's barely part of the metro area.
