As we gear up for the NFC showdown [and our eventual Super Bowl
], this article came up on the Facebook feed and I thought it was a delightful (albeit nostalgic) read. I remember those days and being excited about finally getting a soccer team. I had no idea that the Sounders were going to explode through way it did and my, they do quite well, don't they? Definitely a great time now to be a sports fan in Seattle (though the Mariners could stand to be a little better

I glanced at the link but I don't doubt its accuracy. The proposal by Paul Allen to build a new tax funded pro sports palace was initially very unpopular. And I remember talking to a beautiful young soccer mom who had been drawn in by the soccer angle. Her kids were into soccer, so she voted for the tax-funded football stadium.
