It seems like Seattle transit news has been very wishy-washy lately.

Is this Northgate Link extension really to happen, or is it just talk? If it is, when do they expect to open service by? I have considered buying in the Greenlake area down the line, so if it is one day served by better transit that would be a great investment.

That link is already paid for, so I'd be very surprised if it isn't built.

It is being built, and has been approved by the voters. But it'll take a while. First, the extension of the existing line to the area around University Hospital will open sometime around 2016, then the Northgate extension i supposed to be done in 2021. They're already working on the station near 65th and Roosevelt. So it's happening.

The northgate section is already under construction. You can see the portal/station site from I-5 when you pass by the mall.

I wonder how long it will take to get from Northgate to the airport on that thing? What they really need is a higher-speed transit, like BART in the Bay Area. But this is better than nothing. So very long overdue!

They say 14 min. from Northgate to downtown, then presumably the current 40 min. to the airport. That doesn't include the schlep from the train station to the terminal at Seatac, plus any time needed to get to the Northgate station in the first place. I'd probably guess the whole trip will take 70-90 min., depending on where you're starting from, as opposed to 30-40 min. by car using the express lanes.

That's not bad, I guess. It's only about 15 mins. longer than it would take by car, plus the schlep to the airport terminal, and from home to N-gate. When I was living in the N-gate neighborhood, I didn't have a car, so something like this would have been very welcome. I had to pay to take the airport shuttles that serve the area + cab fare to get from home to the hotel where the shuttles stopped.

why does it take 40 minutes from downtown to the airport when it only takes 15 minutes by car with no traffic? How many stops does it make?

I live in SF, but my partner and I are really liking the Greenlake/Wallingford area, as it seems to be beautiful and affordbale. Obviously we would love to live in Capitol Hill, but would like more bang for our buck.

Will the Link Rail pass through or at least be walkable to those aforementioned areas?

Thanks!

PS - happy to see this isn't just a pipe dream. Once this line is completed, Seattle will be so much easier to get around. Shame they can't build a second line that runs through Fremont up to Ballard.
