I drive 10 miles of back roads to the train station and ride and then catch the light rail and do a little walking to my office.

All in all it takes me 60-75 min, but I am pretty much constantly moving so it doesn't seem that long.

I don't see it as a bother at all.....beats sitting in traffic and having to find a place to park downtown!

BTW - what is considered a short commute? 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hr? Even 1 hr each way doesn't sound unreasonable for a realistic house price and good schools.
Short is subjective, so one possible subjective answer:

Issaquah to tech centers Eastside could be short as 15 minutes, long as 30. Those centers being Issaquah itself, Redmond, Bellevue for the most part.

...to Seattle, I'd think hard about mass transit. Many threads on that.

I commute Kirkland (near downtown) to Issaquah daily. 25 minutes outbound, 30-50 back depending on traffic variables. The smartphone traffic app INRIX clues me in on what's going on and I adjust the return route accordingly. All quite tolerable IMO, but then again that's Eastside to Eastside. Adding Seattle city-of in there is a wildcard, nothing good comes of it if you're SOV.

Maple Valley, guess you're up to an hour depending where you're going: Boeing (south), not bad; Eastside, not good at-all. Mill Creek, where I used to live (north end), same thing. I dealt with it, never liked it. Carpool and riding my motorcycle when-feasible made it a bit better.

You can find a 2500 square foot house in Issaquah for less than 500,000. But it won't likely be a newer house, and it won't likely be in areas that people generally think of as Issaquah. Look at Mirrormont. Or the Squak Mountain area.

That doesn't sound bad. My commute in Chicago was regularly 1 1/2 hours each way when things went perfect. Didn't matter if I was on the train or driving.
