Renton is OK, I live near the fairwood area and it really is pretty nice...for the most part. South and East of Renton (the Maple Valley and Black Diamond areas) are much nicer, although travel time will increase

That's a fair statement, and I would also agree with it.

The area surrounding the Sunset Blvd. shopping strips is still very scary late at night. The area radiating from the the prominent intersection of Union and 4th is better but a lot of crime is still taking place in the general area.

That's a lovely location, right near Gene Coulon Park on the lake. It's one of the many nice sections of Renton.

I'll second that. Lake WA Blvd in Renton is great.
In fact, I like most of Renton. There are really only a few blocks total that I'd consider scary and potentially unsafe in all of Renton, and even in the worst parts, you only have to travel a few blocks to be somewhere nice.

Are the apartments between Fry's and Boeing still being actively worked on? It seems like they've been stuck at that yellow vapor barrier stage for a long time.

Yes, I noticed construction crews toiling on the roof and in the parking garage this morning. My understanding is that there are two apartments complexes, one opening in the fall of 2008 and the other in the winter of 2009. The structure does seem to have been in "yellow" mode for quite a while.

It would be nice to see a grocery store in the Landing for those soon to be living there. The closest one I know of is the Safeway up on Sunset in the Highlands, and that isn't a very attractive area, IMO.

I'd be the happiest camper alive if they'd open a Trader Joe's there.

My wife is hoping for the same thing. There's a brief mention of Trader Joe's in this article, but I haven't seen or heard anything since.
