Or, should we take the bus? If there is parking, where is the lot?

Did you look up the park on the Parks Dept. website?

There's parking throughout Volunteer Park. There are usually spots near the Conservatory, so access the park via Galer St.

There is parking, but it can fill up fast, more so up by the museum, especially on a nice weekend day, less so in the lower park. The fallback would be to park on the street.

To use transit:

Downtown: Catch #10 at 4th & Pike, get off at 15th & Highland.

U District: Catch #49 at University Way & 45th, get off at 10th & Prospect, walk east up the hill.

With patience, you'll find some. Often it can be crowded near the Asian Art Museum, drive down toward the conservatory or even a bit down the hill toward the playground. While you are at the park, check out the magnificent gnarled cedar trees with low hanging (dare you not to climb them) branches near the outdoor Ampitheatre. Also, climb the water tower stairs if you can, up top there is an excellent display of the Olmsted Brothers huge influence on this city's outdoor spaces: History of Olmsted in Seattle
