I would kill someone for A/C. We have a 3 story townhome, and even when it's not very warm outside, the third floor gets too hot! Add to that the days when it's 80+ (and there were plenty last year), it's unbearable.

When we lived in San Diego, our A/C was set to 68 at all times. It was heavenly!

V. =)

We don't need A/C but are back in the trees with plenty of shade. A fan is plenty on hot days.

There are times that I'd like to have AC, but I don't think it is worth the expense..

When we bought our new Eastside home back in 2004, we chose air conditioning as an option. We have never regretted it. We may only use it for 25 days a year, but the a/c makes life far better during those times. Most of the houses in our development don't have it, and the neighbors cast envious eyes in our direction when it gets really hot. And I don't know if it's just my imagination, but it has seemed to get slightly hotter every summer. Global warming?

Well i'm from arkansas and it was 100+ a lot and SOOO humid and i spent lots of time in OKC and tulsa where it was 110+ and very very humid so i'm not unfamiliar with hot weather....however i do not like being uncomfortable and i like AC!!! As a matter of fact i use the heater probably 5 days at most a year....very very rarely. I use ac even during the winter....but i guess we're bred different down south!

A-Team, do you live high in an apartment complex in a room with a southern exposure? It seems so bizarre to me that you talk about wanting central airconditioning when you've lived in such hot and humid areas.

I think what I suggested on the San Diego thread was that the last 2-3 years saw some freakish heat waves ..... not the usual Seattle weather. I don't remember ever experiencing a heat wave while I lived there, but I remember reading about it last year and maybe the year before? When it hit over 100?

It hit 100 in Spokane, I think. We had a few days (I think 2 or 3) where it got into the low 90's, but I don't recall Western WA (at least this far north) hitting 100.

I said it hit 98 I dont remember the exact date. I used to live on alki and now live in the international district. Both places got too hot for me in the summer. Perhaps it truly is global warming i dunno, but it does get too hot for me and others i know

On July 20,1994 the temperature in Seattle officially hit 100 degrees. I remember that day well, it was awful...!

The highest temperature ever recorded in the state was 118 degrees at Ice Harbor Dam in eastern WA on August 5,1961.

Spokane is no stranger to 100+ temps, the highest recorded there was 108 degrees.

Exactly my thinking.. My wife and I are both from SoCal, so A/C is a way of life down there (especially in the I.E.), but with just a few warm and downright hot days that we do get up here in the summer, a couple fans and open windows work fine. The summer of '06 was just about the straw that broke the camel's back though, but after getting a couple quotes in getting central air, we decided to pass.. Last summer wasn't nearly as bad so we just used the aforementioned fans that we picked up from Fred Meyer.. No problem...
