Hi all,

I'm in a desperate need to update my wardrobe after moving up to Seattle from a sunbelt state, and have been pretty underwhelmed with the selection at the generic retail stores at the mall (i.e. Macys, BCBG, Nordstrom, etc etc) - seems like a lot of low quality, "made in China", overpriced clothes that will last until the first wash cycle.

Just wondering if there is an area or district in Seattle where you can find unique, quality, reasonably priced (not Burberry!), maybe even local stores and boutiques. Kind of like Pearl Street in Portland

Thanks homesinseattle,

Any particular part of Ballard or it kind of scattered all over?

Ballard Ave NW, from NW Market St down. Old town Ballard has been revitalized and has really cool clothing shops, not to mention cafes and pubs. Great place to wander.

OP,, long-time Seattle residents would go to San Francisco Nordstrom's for better choices. (Yes, I know--a trip to CA isn't that convenient for a lot of people...) And if you hit their sales, you can get good quality at a good price. They usually have an early fall sale, when they introduce the new seasonal styles (too late for that, of course), and then they start marking things down as Xmas approaches. The best prices are during the January clearance period. The SF Macy's is better than most of their other stores, too, but I haven't been there since they switched many of their stores to cheap, trendy cr@p for the youth market.

Some neat clothing shops in the Pike/Pine area Capitol Hill too. There also are plenty of great clothing boutiques in Downtown Seattle.

Interesting as the largest Nordstrom in the country is its flagship store in Seattle.
