Facing East is pretty good and is well known in the Asian community. It's one of (if not the only) Taiwanese restaurant in the area.

Their 2 best dishes are the pork burger (basically seasoned pork in a white bun (similar to peking duck)) and the beef rolls (similar to the beef rolls at Peaceful Restaurant in Vancouver, BC).

Usually there is a long wait and parking isn't so good. The Boiling Point next door is also ok but there are a few others around.

Go for the name, stay for the food... "Secrets of 10 Seattle Restaurant Names"

https://www.zagat.com/b/seattle/the-...le-restaurants

I think The Walrus and the Carpenter (poem by Lewis Carrol, obviously), along with How to Cook a Wolf (an homage to M.K. Fisher's 1942 book for post-depression-era housewives struggling to put food on the table) should make this list too.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, just had lunch at a delicious relatively new authentic Chinese restaurant just east of Green Lake in Seattle called "Ming China Bistro". The woman said they intentional opened quietly last year. Gorgeous inside, filled with native Chinese people living, going to grad school or working in Seattle.

I went in, was greeted warmly with calm music playing, escorted to a small wooden table, brought hot jasmine tea immediately. Without even ordering, amuse bouche (appetizers on the house) were brought to me: lotus root in chili pepper oil, pickled cucumbers with sesame tofu and shredded chicken with chili and basil.

The guys next to me (Chinese UW grad students) were eating huge plates of chili crab and sea bass. They invited me to join them, I declined as I already had ordered. My order, a $19 hot pot that could have fed 3 people (I actually called my wife and had her come right over), was delicious. It had prawns, lotus root, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, fish cakes, fresh fish, pork ribs, two kinds of noodles and chili garlic oil.

Straight up delicious meal. Ordered a Tsingtao beer to wash it down happily. Here's the link: ming china bistro

Finally went to Stateside last night with my wife, Pike/Pine part of Capitol Hill. The food was nuanced and delicious. The classically trained chef Eric Johnson has run around the world including stints with Michelin superstars Daniel Boulud and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Here is a good article, go try it: Restaurant Review: Stateside on Capitol Hill | Seattle Restaurants | Seattle Met

Seattle Restaurant of the Year in 2015, here is a New York Times review: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/19/tr...ttle.html?_r=0

"With strong culinary ties to both France and China, the fresh flavors of Vietnam make perfect sense to Chef/Owner Eric Johnson. Eric recently returned to the States after more than a decade working and living abroad in Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong. With family roots in the Pacific Northwest, his goal was to open a casual restaurant in Seattle that reflects his culinary experience abroad. Both geographically and culinarily, Vietnam is a good central point for all of my experiences. It's the natural meeting point of French and Chinese food. I feel like Vietnamese food borrows some of the best aspects of both cuisines, the fresh herbs and the acidity. And, of course, Vietnam has its own spectacular dishes. So we're going to concentrate on Vietnamese food borrowing a bit from the natural partners of French and Chinese cuisine. General Manager/Owner Seth Hammond is no stranger to managing restaurants given his 20+ years of experience. With an exceptional team of seasoned servers and bartenders, Seth creates a comfortable yet upbeat environment that keeps guests coming back. Seth's recent partnership with George Engelstad, one of Seattle's best bartenders, has resulted in a delicious cocktail menu that complements the unique flavors of the food. Designed by Callie Meyer, Stateside's dining room feels tucked away despite its location in the heart of the Pike/Pine corridor. Drawing inspiration from the distressed beauty of Vietnamese cities, the breezy interior environment feels both familiar and foreign, old and new".

Katsu Burger in Georgetown is really good. Popped in there today while I was in the area refilling my growler at Georgetown Brewing Company. Outstanding. Saimin Says in Kent has really tasty Hawaiian food. A good mix of authentic and local Hawaiian food. Square Lotus in Bellevue blew me away.

Doesn't it, though? Those baguette sandwiches are killer. And yam fries. And the lemon grass chicken. They do wonderful things with tofu. Great place.
