You sound excited, excellent! I was born and raised in Miami, university in Vermont, came here 26 years ago and still love it. Coffee shops? Too many to list, good ones are everywhere. "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks" is a common bumper sticker, there is much better.

My best friend is from Miami. I am orginally from GA but have lived all over the U.S. and out. LOL @ the Starbucks comment. We can't wait to explore and find some great coffee shops.

There's an unusually good Indian restaurant in Lynnwood, if you like ethnic fare. Great service, food is several cuts above the usual Indian fare, but the price is the same. There's a little Ukrainian grocery store that has an amazing selection of herbal and non-herbal tea, frozen dumplings (it's a Russian/Uke/Polish thing), and other goodies, including bakery goods packaged and flown in direct. Fun to explore.

Aside from all the usual hiking in the area, Lynnwood is near the ferry to the Kitsap Peninsula, so you can head over there for a change of scenery. The Olympic Peninsula and everything it has to offer is an easy drive from there.

OP, if both you and your wife are applying for jobs, how is this a retirement move?

Ruth, think the OP said "retiring from the corps". That's pretty common among military people, retiring after say 20 years. Many of these people, even though they have a nice military pension, choose to keep working. If you started your service when you were say 22, there are a lot of productive years left.

Thanks for the great info. That's ironic we recently had lunch at our favorite Indian spot here, and were mentioning how we hope to find one when we move. And my wife will love the you grocery you mention Ruth she is a TEA lover to say the least. Thanks for clarifying Homesinseattle you are spot on. This is a retirement move as I am retiring from the Military, and how I wish military pension was enough to support us for the rest of our lives. I recently turned 38 so yes I have many more productive years to contribute to a second career. Even those of us that stay in for a full 30 years start a second career at the age of 45-50.

Greetings! looking for some insight on vehicle registration in WA. We will be moving there, and registering two vehicles both fairly new 2013, 2014. I realize I will of course have to get our license and register within 30 days. What can I expect to pay for this? Will I have to pay any taxes? Thanks for any info

@homesinseattle, thanks I had read through the DOT site, but was I still a bit confused on the taxes I may or may not have to pay. So I called and spoke to two different employees, and received two different answers. One said I would not pay any tax only the fees to register my vehicles around 115-140. Another said that I would have to prove how much tax I have paid and then pay the difference between VA tax and WA tax..... therefore we decided to wait until we get there and see what happens in person. Either way we have to do it no matter the cost, but wanted an idea for budgeting. 13 days until we depart!!
