Hi Jen,

That question is a bit subjective but this site will help you: Seattle Schools - Seattle Washington School Ratings - Public and Private
Even in schools that don't "perform" perfectly, there are often some excellent programs and a committed administration. I always recommend that my clients go visit the school and talk with the principal, you can learn a lot about the culture of a place that way.

If you are asking where should I live to have the best public schools, you need to first state your housing budget. The two are very closely correlated.

Yep, school ratings and parental income tend to be close correlates. Greatschools' ratings in this state, for instance, are entirely based on test scores.

The only thing that can be assumed is that higher scoring schools are more competitive. Would a child be better served by being in the bottom half of a more competitive school or the top half of a less competitive school?

Also, cumulative scores can be (I believe unfairly) influenced by the existence of rentals and/or fantastic ethnic diversity nearby. The school might have incredible programs and the exposure diversity might help your kid be
a much more interesting person in the long run.

Thanks everyone. Well my ex husband is getting stationed there in the coast guard. He has custody of our kids right now (7 and 12), for financial reasons, (and hes a jerk), thats another story though! Anyway, i have a bachelors in education and have started with substitute teaching. I know my ex will choose the area that has the best schools, for our kids, and he is doing well financially. As for me, I am on a stricter budget but I dont want to live in the ghetto or have a job in a really bad school district. So I suppose this is a two sided question. Wondering where my kids will probably end up and also where I can get a job in an area where schools are at least decent... Thanks again everyone

Where exactly is your husband stationed? Areas with 'best schools' may be far from his base.
