Hi all! I now have my mother interested in coming to the Seattle area for a visit this summer. Her father was there a few years back I believe and said they stayed in a "German-like" area nearby. I believe there is also a VA hospital nearby. Does this ring a bell?

Leavenworth, perhaps? I don't know about a VA hospital, though.

Leavenworth would HAVE to be it!

But Leavenworth is more than 100 miles from Seattle if you could call that "nearby." Perhaps they made a trip over there and stayed overnight.

There's a German Heritage Center on First Hill but the VA hosptial is on Beacon Hill. I don't know.

I'll mention those to her and see if the name rings a bell to her. If it's 100 miles away though, that is quite far so I'm not sure. Thanks though.

Are you sure the town was German? Ballard is Scandinavian and that's not too far from Pill Hill...

This is what he told my mother. They're all from Germany so when he was up there, I guess that's what he compared it to, but I'm not 100% sure.

If you're coming for a visit, the drive to Leavenworth is well worth it. You can easily go there and come back in a day, and to make the trip more interesting you can go across the mountain one way on Snoqualmie Pass and back the other on Stevens Pass.
