Everett is a reasonable commute from Seattle. I'd look at the Silver Lake area, which is South East Everett, and parts of it are near Mill Creek and Snohomish. The only other areas of Everett I like are further North, which is prohibitive because once you hit the mall, traffic is an absolute mess. I'm not sure what your price range is, but single family homes in that area start in the mid to high $300k's.

Default Stay in Seattle for diversity

If you like diversity, don't move to one of the burbs. Almost all of the disticts in Seattle are great places to lice , even with a family. If you live in the burbs you won't have much diversity or culture.

Less diversity = more safety. But Renton is diverse.

To those who replied, thanks for the help and advice. FYI, I have declined job opportunities in Everett and Tacoma area (Puyallup, Auburn/Federal Way) in favor of a practice opportunity in Bellevue. It was a very tough decision as each job/organization/location offered its own set of unique advantages. However, in the end we were very drawn to the proximity to Seattle, amenities, cultural diversity, and school system (among other things) that the Eastside had to offer. Hopefully we made the right decision, only time will tell...Again, thanks and we'll be making the move to the Northwest this summer. Hopefully we can bring some warmth and sun from Hawaii with us!
