OP needs the rent to be under $850, unless utilities are included. And even meeting that criterion, the budget may not be enough for a transit pass. Those other units are all around $1000/mo.
It says "0 matching units" now, so might be taken. It is a great location - best on Capitol Hill, IMO.

The OP said "hopefully" - she needs to adjust her sights. She might find something like that in Tacoma, but his commute would be well over an hour (and requiring a $200 Puget Pass for Sounder). He might get free rides on Amtrak, however.

Around $1,000/mo. within walking distance of work (saving $100, due to not needing a Pass), even without utilities included, is about as good as he's going to do. Unless he goes with the roommate option.

Here's an interesting roommate situation, sharing a 4-bedroom apartment with "working professionals" in the International District, about four blocks from work, for $745 mo., with utilities estimated at $50-75 mo.:

BTW, How old is your son? If he is used to dorm or shared living arrangements, then his options become wider. Seattle is very much a young person's city and housemates will help him get acquainted faster and have more fun doing so.

King Street Station/Union Station is transportation hub of Seattle.

This place is good: CENTRAL AREA ROOM FOR RENT 04/22/2016.
Disclaimer: I think the address listed is an approximate to actual for security purposes. I do not recall this on 10th & Yesler.

A IMPORTANT NOTE: Seattle has an Extreme shortage of homes and rentals. DO NOT DELAY.

This is an important point. The demand is very high, so one has to be prepared to act promptly when a new listing comes up. Watch the listings daily or twice daily. Contact the LL as soon as an opening comes up. If your son has references, have those available to fax, along with his credit score and offer of employment. It will require some persistence to snag a place, be the first one to call on a new listing, and all. Stiff competition, especially for the lower-priced listings.

Hopefully under $850 monthly with utilities included.
$850 and all utilities?

... Maybe in Tacoma? Not even.

Seattle is nearly as expensive as LA these days.

Are you sure those are studios, and not shares, meaning a shared kitchen with other residents? Those are more like clustered dorm rooms than studios.

Even though it's further Northgate Seattle may be an option for your son. I moved from LA almost a year ago and live in Northgate Seattle and love it. My apartment in Northgate seattle is 610 square feet for $1200 a month all utilites included. There is an apartment building next to mine that rents one bedrooms for $900 a month with utilities included.

If my apartment were located in LA instead of northgate seattle it would cost $2,000 a month in LA.

Seattle is still cheaper than LA to buy or rent. Areas like capital hill, south lake union and queen ann or super expensive and rival LA prices.

Feel free to pm me.
