And depending on where you live, you might not need a car in Seattle.

You don't mention where you are coming from but since driving isn't a consideration I assume far enough that the shipping bill will be at least 1,200-1,500. We made the cross country move and sold our cars and bought one private party when we arrived here. Like you we were ready to move on from our cars anyways (beaters at the end of their lives) and they weren't cars that were worth taking across country, especially considering we weren't going to keep much longer either way.

Consider the value of your car and how long you might keep vs. how expensive a car you would buy, how much the taxes and such would cost on the new car. Weigh that against the cost of shipping your car. If you buy what most consider even a modest car here you will pay a big tax bill + registration but then again your paying a big bill to ship your car.

There are always risks in buying a used car but most can be mitigated if you do a pre-purchase inspection at a local shop. Also, consider the risks of damage to your car in transport.

When we moved here, we shipped our old beaters. They were ugly and not worth much, but so dependable that I knew we wouldn't be able to replace them with something else unless we spent a lot more money.

Eventually we replaced them with newer, nicer cars, but it was good not to have car payments while we were getting established.

Thank you for the last two or three comments who actually tried answering the question. Its a 02 acura rsx i want to sell it and buy a older pickup or s13 240 But like one of you were saying its nice to not have to worry about car things while getting established. Cant imagine buying a dud as soon as i get to town and having money problems. I am in michigan.. i know whats wrong with the car and whats not and is dependable for the most part i just dont want to chance the cross country dr so i am either shipping or selling. selling would give me more cash but id be carless for a while. vs shipping and pay other small fees. shpping would be around 900-1000 and i planned on selling the car about a year into living there if not sooner for my two choices i gave earlier. thanks
