Here's an option within/at your budget that is closer to downtown Seattle, across the street from the Othello light-rail station:

Station at Othello Park Apartments - Seattle, WA | Zillow

There is a park half a block away. within a block or two are stores (Safeway and an Asian seafood market) and several cafes/restaurants within a couple blocks (Starbucks, Mexican, Vietnamese, Chinese, Cajun, barbeque, teriyaki, etc.). Light rail is 15 minutes to SeaTac and 15-22 minutes to Downtown (25-minutes to Capitol Hill).

Thank you . I would be interested in using light rail and public transit occasionally . Where I am from it doesn't exist . But yes I have a vehicle

Also , this may be a dumb question but looking at the map of the area . Are all those bodies of water and water inlets all salt water ?

Edit : for those of you who have helped in my research , another piece of info I can add is I won't be looking to move to the area for another 12-18 months by then I will be making another 3 dollars an hour more and hopefully my girlfriend will have her degree finished and a job lined up . Will Seattle keep getting more expensive and even this out .

To the west, salt (Puget Sound). To the east, fresh (Lake Union, Green Lake, Lake Washington, and Lake Sammamish).

I'm seeing some plateauing of rents in the Seattle "skirts" (south: Othello/New Holly, south West Seattle, Renton, Kent, etc.; north: Lake City, Northgate, north Greenwood, Bitter Lake/Haller Lake, etc.), with 1bd apts settling in the $1,000-$1,200 range, possibly due to Boeing layoffs.
