Recently moved to Seattle area from Phoenix and looking for both high schools that have good academic as well as arts programs as well as a performing arts school similar to the one we've been with in AZ the past 6 year that provides instruction/after school classes. We currently live in Kenmore so we are very
close to both the Eastside and Seattle. My daughter is entering 5th grade and is into dance, singing and piano. My son, art and sports (soccer). Trying to find schools that feed into middle and high school programs that will nurture them intellectually and creatively. Amy suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Are you open to private schools, or are you looking for public schools that provide all this?

Public schools and nurturing aren't words you hear together often.

Have a look at Overlake in Redmond. It has everything you need.

OP, I've studied your post to try to understand what you're looking for. Are you saying that in AZ your kids were in public school that had some arts instruction, but that in addition to that, they were enrolled in a special arts school that provided after-school programs? At first, I thought you were expecting a public school that would offer all of that, rolled into one school, and I was going to say--you should have stayed in Arizona! I've never heard of a school anywhere that offers arts programs like you describe, except for the odd magnet school or school of the arts in NYC or LA.

I think your only option is Overlake, which is a private school. It goes from 5th grade through HS, so there's no need to find "feeder" schools. That should work out well for you.

Even though it sounds as if you're looking for a public school, there is a highly rated private school in the outskirts of Redmond called The Overlake School. It's located on top of a hill accessed by a windy road. It's well-rounded having an excellent academic program and a good music/arts curriculum and good sports programs.

Athletic Programs

Art/Performing Arts Curriculum

Most of the schools listed above, though public, are about drama, not dance and art. Overlake is the only one that seems to have what you're looking for, OP.

Puyallup School District has drama, music, and visual art programs. Ingraham HS has drama and music (choir, orchestra, jazz, etc.).
