As you may recall we are relocating to Whidbey later this year.

We originally had an escrow but the lender insisted that we occupy within 60 day of purchase so we cancelled. Kinda glad we did as the home we wanted still is available for 40K less and many of the homes have price reductions and have been on the market for >120 days. Is this reflected on the mainland?

It depends. Boeing has been laying off workers, which can have an impact on housing prices from Northgate (in north Seattle) to Whidbey Island.

Compared to Amazon's hiring into Seattle, 201 employees laid off from Boeing is not even noticeable.

Amazon’s Seattle Headcount to Nearly Triple in Five Years

Then there's Google, Microsoft, Adobe - and that's just the computer-related high tech. These employees are creating intense buying pressure from south Sound all the way up to the Marysville area.

No one laying off a couple of hundred people will affect home prices is Seattle or the eastside. We have friends looking at Whidbey also, the prices there have been affected by the threat of more jet aircraft noise scaring off buyers.

Actually the article on Boeing stated that 8,000 layoffs are anticipated by the end of the year. With a good realtor its fairly easy to avoid the worst of the noise in our experience.

The 211 are involuntary layoffs, on top of 8,000 voluntary, after they said they could do it all with voluntary layoffs (attrition, early retirements, buyouts). That tells me there are deeper cuts to come, voluntary and involuntary.

Amazon hiring isn't going to impact housing prices in South Whidbey. Boeing making big layoffs very well could.

Thanks. That is the piece of information that makes the falling prices make sense.
