My friend is coming to visit, arriving at King Street Station. I would like to pick her up there, in my car, as I don't know yet what we will do for the rest of the day. But I have read that there is no parking at King Street Station. Can this be true? How does one pick up a friend or relative who has traveled by train if there is no parking?

Drive around the block many times, or park as close as you can and wait for them to call you when they are walking out of the station. People generally take the light rail or bus to the International District Station and walk the block to the train. There is parking in garages and lots nearby but it may cost you $20-40 to wait less than an hour, because they are used for event parking if there is a Mariner or Sounder game that day.

You can pull in front of the station to drop someone off and pick someone up. So do what Hemlock says. Find a place a few minutes away where you can sit for a bit, and then have them call you when the train is arriving.

There are many thousands of parking spaces within a single golf shot of the station. Unless there's a game.

No Sounders that day; Mariners will be on the road. Are there reasonable rates?

I guess I will have some options. Thanks, Ira, Hemlock, and mhays.

Pick up friend at train level, where the taxi lie on King Street. Should be enough temp parking. Use App for train arrival. Add 6-10 minutes to detrain and walk out of station.

Park in Uwajimaya store parking lot in the International District, a very short walk to station. Besides being a great area for you guys to stroll around after, if you spend $20 in the store (food court, groceries), they give you 2 hours of free parking.

Since I don't know how much stuff my friend will have, I think I will go to Uwajimaya and shop while I wait for her to arrive. Then, when she calls, I will pick her up.

Thanks again.

If you haven't been, it is a great store, very good food court and bookstore there too.

Of all places, my husband and I have a pet sitting client in "The Wave" caddy-corner from the stadium and the train stain and we've always been able to find a spot within a few rounds of the block, usually very close to the station itself. I've never actually paid for parking though.. usually my husband will go up to feed the cats and I sit and wait, for up to a half an hour, in my car. The most I paid was $5 bill to an articulate homeless man that presented an elaborate argument for a charitable gift.
