In the Post office after it closed to use the automated machine. Helded down at gunpoint 80 bucks taken. Also with a gun. Riverton Branch

Lived in Hong Kong, and Brooklyn NY and not one incident happened.

Thank you Seattle. I love you.
When did these happen? I was robbed at gunpoint myself, not here, but in the SF Bay Area, CA. . .in 1974. Both Beacon Hill and the Riverton area were well know for their crime and people with common sense avoided risky situations when in those places until the fairly recent gentrification.

Good question, because if your 1911 weights eight pounds, it's made of uranium and should be tossed at your opponent instead. Guessing my Commander weighs a bit under two pounds, in-contrast. Nor is there any known way I could carry it "while jogging" without sweating through any holster. Not to mention serious chaffing from, say, a nylon holster, or any real way to conceal it since jogging and running are the two highest-exertion exercises I know of (on land).

I don't jog/run anymore, at-current, after training to become an athlete back in the early 'Naughts and since giving it up. But for my walks these days I carry various legal, non-lethal devices. Those are mostly for dogs, by far the greatest danger to me while running or walking briskly. Most dangerous device to humans being my cell phone, of course.

Then again I don't walk after dark. But if compelled to do so, never without my trusty Fenix flashlight w/strobe, one of the smaller models that is legal to carry anywhere including through airport security. Haven't had to strobe dangerous people yet, nor would that last terribly long as a deterrent, but the objective is to run...not walk, not jog...the other way from danger.

Right?

People ask me for a light, and presumably a smoke, I actually give them both (though I haven't smoked regularly in years, occasionally I do have a pack and often as not a Zippo in a pocket). I don't pull out a 1911, since that's "brandishing" at-best and could be construed as homicidal and dangerous, at-worst.

But hey, that's just me. I've not been shot-at, it's a low possibility scenario in the non-ghetto areas I inhabit day-to-day, based on the lifestyle I choose. Were it otherwise, I'd need to re-think my life choices.

Go to the King County downtown courthouse if you don't have an appointment (I suggest as early as possible in the day if you don't want to wait a very long time), or schedule an appointment with multiple other locations around King County to show up for fingerprinting and background check. Once your personal check clears and your background clears you'll get the permit in the mail. One thing I always wondered is why in the world is why liberals are against people who conceal carry, in order to legally conceal carry you have to clear a background check and those that do are amongst the most law abiding citizens walking around, more so than some of those that vote! What the heck.

But I digress, I apologize for the derail.

I did mine at Burien Sherrifs office. Free and easy parking, no lines to wait.
You can download the application off the King County web site and search pistol permit.

Even though I'm not a firearms enthusiast, I have no problem with concealed carry. You're quite right that it's screened thoroughly. I also have great respect for the power and responsibility of firearms. I've known too many yahoos with little idea or experience how to handle and use firearms well much less in high stress situations. My biggest wish for gun regulation would be that gun owners were obliged to regularly demonstrate their safe and responsible handling of the weapons... perhaps in the context of gun club, range or militia. Regular practice and range time give gun owners the ability should such unfortunate situations arise. Furthermore social aspects of gun clubs might filter out some of the nuts and loners that are the real danger.

Regarding crime... I'm sure I'm not alone in being disappointed by the tolerance for disorder and criminality together with the broad hostility to Seattle police. After watching the video of this city council meeting regarding the new North Police Precinct the ill-mannered loonies who stood up and attacked the council appalled me and were another fine reminder of how bad I (and any other sane people) fit with the crazy extremists that populate and run this town.

In Beacon Hill I was robbed at gunpoint around 2005 or so. But Beacon Hill is improving a lot cause you know White people are moving in. And let's face it, when white people move in a neighborhood it's up and coming.

Who in their right mind jogs with an 8 pound 1911 and an extra magazine?
Who goes to Guatemala with a gun?! How did you even manage to do that? And when was that, in the 80's? The level of banditry escalated in the 80's, not to mention the rest of the activity.

That hasn't been the case for Ballard.
