Meaning, where does the Seattle "mega city" start (where it seems like one big city with no real gap/borders)? From what I have seen it begins in Everett from I-5 north, Lakewood from I-5 south, and Issaquah from I-90 east. What are the other borders that you have seen? Can you see it expanding into other places like Snoqualmie/North Bend to the east and Marysville/Arlington to the North? Some already say Marysville is part of the "sprawl," but there is a distinct boundary between Everett and Marysville. Am I totally inaccurate? What do you think?

I think we've got a problem when we start blending with Duvall and Monroe.

I don't see that at all. Mercer island is separated from Seattle and Bellevue by water. Redmond is separated from Sammamish and Issaquah by a lake. Kirkland and Bothell blend but then there isn't much but trees to Lynnwood. Going up I5, I have always found the borders between Seattle, Shoreline, Lynnwood, Everett and Marysville to be pretty clear. Going South, The Renton borders with Issaquah and with Bellevue are pretty much blurred, but the others seem very clear. Renton and beyond still have lots of open space and woods.

I was driving from Highway 99 from North Seattle to Everett the other day, and for me it was hard to tell the boundaries. It was all commercial business all the way through.

These "boundaries" are inexact. The only way to define them is to drive to the boundaries and see what is happening. There are few restrictions, but counties do have some regulations. That being said, there are county regulations in Western WA. There is also a growth boundary that is set pretty liberally around the Puget Sound region. By that, it is opens up a lot of land in King County. So, in essence the entire Puget Sound region is open. But to answer the OP question, there is no real boundary. The mega city can continue to expand throughout W. Washington with few barriers, except for Native American land.

Pugetopolis. I'd say Marysville to Lakewood.

That's my answer too, though I'd put the eastern edge of the metro to North Bend and Carnation.

Perhaps we can bring back the I-605 freeway proposal...just make SR 18 an interstate and continue it up to Everett. What a nice bypass of Seattle, and most of it is already in place. Probably will never happen, but a nice vision...

Pioneer Square.
Sprawl started here and continues outwards. You need to define the density to know where it starts and ends.
