Probably moving to WA State for retirement. Have family in Seattle (Mercer Island, Seattle, Mill Creek), but moving to Olympia interests us (kind of away from the big city, yet still close enough).

Looking for the following: safe, diverse neighborhood. Amenities close by (healthcare, restaurants, coffee houses, music, shopping, etc.)

We are a childless couple, a few years from retirement. Any suggestions?

You should post this in the Washington forum.

When you say close by, do you mean a short drive, or a walk? The Olympia area is, for the most part, laid out to serve a population that drives everywhere... it's not really a walking culture. For most practical purposes, the three cities of Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater all run together and overlap. You might consider any of them depending what you're looking for.

There are older city neighborhoods where you may find a few restaurants and coffee houses within a short walk, but you probably won't find everything on your list? Just depends!

What kind of home and yard and price range are you looking for?

Thanks for the responses, so far. I will also post in the Washington forum.

Are there any neighborhoods which would have some or most of the amenities we are looking for, say 15 minutes drive away?

Single story home (no condos), small yard (easier maintenance), priced around $425K (+/- 50K), 3 bedrooms, 2 baths.

Suggestions appreciated.

I just moved here in spring. Pretty much everything is within a 15 minute drive (depending on traffic) and like a previous poster said Olympia overlaps with lacy and Tumwater. If you are after walkability than you want to be on the east side. In terms of safe I might not be the best to ask. Im coming from NYC so to me everything here seems safe lol.
