Sad day in Seattle. One cold and rainy night in 1991, just a couple years after I arrived in Seattle, I walked alone and unplanned into that little temple to grunge, The Crocodile Cafe. Soundgarden were there, it was before they were mega world famous, before I really even knew them that well. I was captivated.

Most definitely a sad day for Seattle, and beyond. This is probably the most shocking news of a local famous musician passing since Kurt Cobain or Layne Staley.

Saw Soundgarden with Nine Inch Nails almost 2 years ago. Fantastic performance by Cornell and the band. His vocal abilities were still as great as ever. A truly talented musician who will be greatly missed.

Wow. Wish I could have seen him. I am so so sorry that he's gone.

This is very sad, I loved Kurt and Layne as well but this is so much more a shock. He leaves a wife and 3 youngish daughters too.

I was still in Texas- in Houston- at that time I saw them sometime after Superunknown was released . That voice was outrageous ,I absolutely adored him . I have just been stuck on Burden In My Hand all day !

I have and still play Soundgarden's 'Down on the Upside' CD. I enjoy it every time - it's that booming yet controlled voice - reminds me of one of my favorite rock vocalist's ever - probably my very favorite - Burton Cummings of The Guess Who. Both of these men absolutely boom out the vocals. Chris Cornell will be dearly missed.

RIP Chris Cornell

Huge bummer. I woke up with "Seasons" in my head this morning because it is on a big NW music mix I am listening too at the moment(I'm home sick but heading back next week!). Then I read the news. Creepy. I am also reading Everybody Loves Our Town for the 6th time(again, home sick and a MUST read for anybody even remotely interested in the "Seattle music scene" from the early 80's to the mid 90's) at the moment.

The music of my 20s, pretty damn tough to lose another. We went to a nice impromptu gathering last night at the Black Hole Sun sculpture at Volunteer Park for Chris Cornell. About 15 people, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog music playing from a nearby car.

The one thing I really liked about Cornell was he kept putting out great music after Soundgarden. Audioslave, and even a solo career. Please check out "Never Forgot My Broken Heart", that came out just a couple years ago. A true combo of ballad and rock that is perhaps one of his crowning jewels. The viideo, while somewhat prophetic, doesn't diminish the song.
