Yes, I also recommend you check with your personal insurer in advance. My insurer issued me a special Canada card before I drove my own vehicle north of the border. It didn't cost anything extra.

The lesson here is crossing into Canada and back has changed. Don't assume everything is the same as 1995. It isn't.

I would make sure you have all documents handy. This includes an enhanced WA drivers license, your insurance documents, and even your birth certificate. Seriously. You may not be asked for all these, but you should have them.

(Just in case anyone else gets the idea to fly or boat from WA to Cnd)
I was not implying they are the same thing. I rechecked and found that, for regular U.S. citizens (not military, Native American, Merchant Mariner, or Amish/Mennonite), the following is required to cross via Amtrak or car: U.S. Passport, Passport Card, Trusted Traveler Card (NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI), or (not temporary) Enhanced ID/DL/Learner's Permit (issued by Washington State, Minnesota, Michigan, New York and Vermont only). The Washington State Enhanced ID/DL just received another "waiver", by the way.

So NOT "Real" ID/DL, which is good for domestic flights, but not for crossing international borders. Surprising considering that "Enhanced" ID does not meet all the requirements of the Real ID Act.

Also good for driving across the US/Canada border OR taking the Victoria Clipper (a "boat") to Victoria and back ("A US Passport, Passport Card, Enhanced Driver License or an Enhanced ID Card (EDL/ID) is REQUIRED to cross the US/Canadian border by land and sea" - Victoria Clipper website.

16% is the figure I see.

But be sure to contact your insurer and get a proof of insurance document for Canada. Different from the one you have domestically.
