That reminds me of another Seattle April Fools joke that got some people in trouble.
I believe it was mid 80's and radio DJ's (Robin and Maynord?) reported Queen Anne Hill was volcanically erupting.

Watching the opening minutes of bad TV movie 10.5, I cheered when the falling Space Needle crushed the cheesy bicyclist.

I love the Space Needle. It's one of the most iconic structures in the country. It doesn't look dated to me at all. It still has that futuristic look to it. And the dual focus of the Space Needle and Rainier on a clear day from Kerry Park, flanking the skyline, is truly one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. It's like this perfect blend of the man-made and natural worlds. I haven't had a chance to go up inside the Space Needle yet but I'll get around to it.

Do it. A definite bucket list item. Just choose a clear or partly clear day. The parking sucks, (they do have a valet, but it isn't much more expensive than nearby lots.) The best value is the lunch menu as you can get a meal plus the observation deck. Observation deck only is (I hate to say) a ripoff...atleast enjoy a meal and get the view for free!

Yeah solid plan, I did that for the first time last July, perfect clear warm day, definitely a must.

There is still free parking nearby, but (because I work on the Seattle Center grounds) I'm not going to reveal where it is.

It feels odd to be up in the Columbia Center observation deck and look down at the Space Needle. Not as much "fun" as the Space Needle but a great view on a clear day.

Yeah, I intend to. I just moved here. I'm very much fixated on the endless outdoor opportunities at the moment but I think I'm going to purchase the citypass and knock out all those attractions in a weekend.

It's neat to see the Needle (or sometimes just the spaceship looking top of the Needle) peeking out at me from different vantage points when I drive around town. Mt Rainier does the same, it's like having two buddies who constantly surprise you when you least expect it.

Both of them are very, very cool constant attractions.
