Hi, my husband and I are currently in Washingon looking for good neighborhoods to relocate to. We have two boys, whom we homeschool. We are looking for a town that is very family friendly, meaning they have family events that take place often. We do not want to live in the city, we would ideally prefer to live no further than 35 minutes from a big city, like Seattle. I want the town to be surrounded by mountain views or lush green trees everywhere. Ideally we would love to live somewhere where we can have half an acreage or a forest as a backyard. We both work from home, so jobs do not matter to us. We are open to relocating anywhere in Washington as long as there is a big enough community. I looked at Mountain towns but they all seem very isolated. Examples of what I find absolutely stunning are: Lungern Switzerland, Craig Alaska, or places with a gorgeous
River.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Budget??????

Plus, no on the 35 minutes. Traffic too harsh. Maybe 35 minutes from Tacoma or Olympia but not Seattle.

Its taking close to an hour now from Tacoma . Easy . There is some sort of construction bottleneck at 16 and I-5 both ways . It took me 2 hours to go 16 miles on a Sunday afternoon 3 weeks ago with no wrecks and it was dry . Everyone here knows my regular 2-2 apt is $1550 with sewer and trash and parking . The water and elec. I pay on it's own .

Edmonds might work, seems to fit many of the things you speak of.

North Bend, Snohomish, Carnation, Duvall, Preston, Fall City, Bellingham, suburbs around Olympia. On the other side, the Olympic Peninsula, there are towns like Silverdale that are green, semi-rural and have access to amenities. Since schooling is not an issue and the criteria is green, semi-rural with access to mountains and amenities, that includes a lot of locations.

I live in Seattle - it takes over 35 minutes to get to other parts of town.

Will you continue to homeschool? Do schools matter? Have you considered Bainbridge Island. It seems like a real family friendly and close community and you could take a ferry to Seattle when you wanted to go into the city.

Vashon Island would work too, car ferry to West Seattle and passenger ferry direct to downtown Seattle.

Looks like the OP was in Portland too, so that must mean Vancouver would be a candidate?

OP said big city "like" Seattle, but does that mean Seattle? Like some of the posters said what exactly are you looking for? If you just want a decent sized city Tacoma Area could work, You can find places in the Cascade foothills but still be close enough to commute into Tacoma. Maybe Bellingham? Not a big city but has everything a person needs if you can find work.
