Is there anything that can be done?

I'm renting a spendy home in Seattle, I thought my money would buy me a clean home, but the basement, attic, and maybe the ventilation system are lousy with mold.

I'm having fairly serious respiratory reactions to the mold.

It's not the landlords fault I'm allergic to mold, but it's not my fault his house is infested with mold either, and I'm the one suffering.

Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks.

Call the Seattle Tenants' Union. My guess is that the LL's are required to provide you with a livable space, a mold-free space. It has nothing to do with allergies. Mold in the environment isn't healthy for anyone. Apparently they had a moisture issue, or bought a house with a previous moisture issue, and the mold was never dealt with. The rental is not really habitable in the state it's in. I wouldn't discuss it (with the LL) in terms of YOUR allergies. I'd keep your personal allergies out of it, or they could say that it's your problem. There are other principles at play, here.

yikes, i have a friend in seattle who has some serious chronic issues due to mold exposure. you should try to find a way to break your lease or get your landlord to remediate the issue.
my house i was renting out had some mold issues and i hired a professional remediator. cost me big $$$ but health is worth it!
