Interesting data on what it actually costs to live/survive in parts of WA state.

"Alligator Economics," huh? Interesting.

Of greater interest is the 102 page study itself. Breezed through the graphs in the first dozen pages, the preface. The meat of the doc is interesting and readable. Will have to take a close look at that, see what their agenda might be (if-any).

If accurate, I dare say might answer 50% of the questions people breeze in here with, RE "affordable housing", zero skills, and surviving on minimum wage. = No, no, and probably not (though one of the graphs did indicate "self sufficiency" wage of $14.06/hr required for a Single person in Snohomish County. Add one brat, that goes up to $26.55/hour, yet another reason why single moms are completely SOL in this country).

Definitely sheds some light on the true cost of living in this region. I cringe when I see people post they're moving here expecting a certain lifestyle without the income to back it, or on a "prayer" that magically they'll be taken care of once they get here.

Depends on what sacrifices people are willing to make to live closer to jobs - smaller living space, live close to transit, drop a car, cut the cord, etc. If not, they might have to look elsewhere. Many "servers", by the way, make well over $20/hour.

Nothing says that your representatives can't pass a multi-tier minimum wage: 1) "sheltered" workers, 2) teen workers, 3) tipped workers, 4) adult workers.

Yes, if you want a "Dallas life-style" in Seattle, be prepared to pay up. If everything is great in Texas, why are people leaving?

Texas has a higher growth rate than Washington. If Washington is so great why are long time residents leaving?

We've had LOTS of Texans wanting to move to the Seattle area this year. They all want a 3,000sf house in the burbs for $300,000 and a 30-minute commute.

Report: Seattle tops nation in wage growth - seattlepi.com

Seattle tied for first at 4.1% with S.F. and St. Louis. Austin #11 at 3%, Dallas #15 at 2.8%.

Texas with $22.97 average wage and $17.08 mean wage.

Washington with $26.83 average wage and $20.87 mean wage.
