All these Californians...lol. Well for the rest of not from California... Seattle is very expensive and unaffordable. And I also believe Seattle has been snobbified by the influx of Californians. Such is life.

I went to Seattle in 2011 and it felt just like a mini Bay Area.

You can still rent a 2 bedroom apartment/condo/house in and around the Seattle area for under 2 grand a month. You can't even get a studio in NYC for 2000 a month. Im guessing that stands true in SFO as well. Seattle's COL is just fine. But I can say grocery shopping is MUCH cheaper back east with a better selection of products. Or more of a selection I should say.

Willys, try Asian markets and Grocery Outlets in the Seattle area, really attractive prices.

Well yea, NYC and SFO are the top two most insanely expensive places in the country, but I remember an article a few months back stating Seattle was the third most expensive for now, still, that’ll change soon as this has always been a roller coaster market that booms and busts HARD.

I can already see many places sitting on market much longer than a year or two ago and being subjected to price cuts, even though it’s a “down” time of year, during the ascension period neither of those things were happening

Yes, house prices are very high. I’m just referring to rentals.
Lots of areas around this country have exploded with housing booms.

I am overall fine with the COL as a renter. I would easily pay $3500+ in San Francisco, apples to apples, for what I pay for my $2100 1br with garage parking and pet rent in central Seattle. I’ve had several opportunities to transfer to SF, and even with a significant pay bump, my take home pay would be less with the California taxes. So I’m pretty happy and in a better state financially than I would be in the Bay Area unless I took a huge cut in my standard of living.

Buying is a bit of a different story. But I would still be better off than in CA. And I like it better here, so why move? If I did, it would be to Portland.

Fair enough, but have you been in a Grocery Outlet?
