A mid-level tech offer in Seattle today is going to come in at about 150 base with a 15-20% bonus and some sort of RSU (average would be about 30K per year) and ESPP program (let's say this is worth another 8), regardless of whether you're in dev, architecture, or ops. It sounds like this company is private, so it's missing those tasty equity trimmings.

Meaning an average total comp is going to come in at just over 200K. 150 all in is a full 25% under that. You're giving this poor bastard bad information. This dude is gonna be living hand to mouth with a 3 person household and only one source of income.
Geez! Live within your means.

I think you're probably fine. If you are underpaid for your skills, you will get a lot of offers to interview at amazon, microsoft, etc. And then you can always jump to a larger tech company that pays more, etc.
omg!

Try Newcastle condos, it is next to Bellevue with great Issaquah school district.

since school is not necessary right now, you have so many more options of where to live. if i were you, i would rent as cheaply as i can, save up and buy a house when you really know the areas around here. that's pretty much what i did and i'm so glad i took that year to do so.

Regarding the commute, I was checking google maps in this morning at about 7:30AM PST (possibly the peak hour?) and it showed about 1hr commute from Everett to Bellevue southbound. Is it much worse in reality? Are there people living in Everett and working at Bellevue?

Also thanks for the property tax info. How about homeowners insurance? For a condo/townhouse, you have to pay HOA also or does it vary?
OP, I'm not understanding your concept. Why would you commute to Bellevue? Why not live near where you work? Where was it you were planning to buy? Everett? Why, what would be the point? For cheaper housing prices, you mean? You can find something closer to Bellevue than that. Look in Redmond, right next door to B'vue.

At which point, your condo location may no longer serve you well, depending on what company you jump to. So you should rent for the first year, then decide where to buy after you find a permanent home job-wise.
