In the 60's and 70's these two Seattle-based burger chains were quite popular. Herfy's was decadent with their cheeseburgers, and Dag's also offered up a tasty burger. Of course, today's fan favorite, Dick's was in the midst of the competition. All three were good...a different era!

Dag's had a location on Aurora North just north of the Space Needle, another one I remember was in the U-district. Herfy's spread out a bit more suburban but went out of business in the 80's. My local one growing up was the Wedgewood 35th NE location. (There was another burger joint called Herfy's later, but was not part of the original chain).

Herfy's was a favorite of ours on Hwy 99 in Lynnwood. Just north of PAWS animal shelter. Great burgers, affordable, too. Really good fries.

I remember Herfy's but can't recall Dag's.

I remember the salad bar at Herfy's.

I remember the Herfy's in the U District. When I lived in Bellingham, I went to the Herfy's on Holly St. I went to the Dag's on 4th Avenue S at least once.

The Grand Broiled Dag was a thing of beauty.
When I worked on the Waterfront streetcar, an Australian tourist laughed hysterically when we passed the Dag's on the waterfront, across from Ivar's. He let me know that in Australia, a dag is the remnants of sheep fecal matter attached to the fur.

I worked at Herfy's on Rainier Avenue, by Franklin HS, back in 1979. I also did some overtime at their places on Broadway and on Queen Ann, which is now Dick's. I liked their fish sandwiches and French dips, but the burgers were pretty good... as long as they were fresh off the grill.

As a kid, I remember Dag's on 4th Avenue... Close to the old Sears on 1st Ave.

Also, I'm pretty sure there was a Dag's in Georgetown too.

Anybody remembers the year Dag's went under?? My only real memories of Dags was their chocolate milk shakes and their sign, which included a bull holding a burger and the bull having little skinny legs!!

Herfy's in salem, Oregon. Not a bad burger IIRC, good location.
I seem to remember that our Herfy converted to BK, and then moved to another location. The site now is a ARCO station

Interesting...Herfy's downfall was probably due to trying to expand too quickly. The Seattle area chain did expand into Oregon as I recall. Sometimes this can over extend the brand, depending on how they dealt with the franchisees. But Herfy's soon closed locations after this expansion.
