I am coming to Seattle in a few weeks. Originally I was going to rent a room/bath on the east side till I got the feel of things. Now I am opting to get a 1 bedroom/studio in Seattle. I hear Ballard and Fremont are cool places. I am 51 years old and in tech, far past the millennial age and could use some suggestions on other good spots to live in in the Seattle kingdom. Thanks!

Ballard would be good, if working in SLU or Downtown, but not so good if working in Bellevue or Redmond. If the latter, look at east Seattle (Stevens/E. Cap. Hill, Madison Valley, Central District, Cherry Hill, etc.).

Look at Lower Queen Anne (Uptown) - lots of apartments and quick transit connections to Downtown (and elsewhere), safer than Belltown, less expensive than Capitol Hill. Lots of restaurants, bars, shops, and stores, and tons of events and festivals at the Seattle Center.

Hi Willys, Welcome (almost) to town! Your post says "safe and friendly". Some places that do that pretty well are Madison Park, West Seattle, Fremont, Wallingford, Ballard.

When I say safe, I’m referring to my property. I read some where that Seattle has a lot of car break ins. It sounds like the homeless are pretty much camped out downtown Seattle. I have been looking in Ballard and Fremont and Kirkland as well. I will check into these other locations tomorrow. Thank you for your time gents.

Yeah, Madison Park (where we live) is about as safe as it gets. Upper Queen Anne, Laurelhurst, Magnolia are good places. A place like Sunset Hill (West Ballard) is pretty mellow, though there are definitely some break ins in Central Ballard. Pretty basic rule, just don't leave unopened boxes or something "stealable" looking in your car. Common sense goes a long way. Do you really have a 41 Willys truck? Those are cool.

I think car break-ins are less homeless folks and more people seeking money for drugs (although there's a significant overlap, most junkies and tweakers aren't homeless.) Finding a place a couple of blocks away from the local main drag/ commercial strip would help. When I was parking on the street on Capitol Hill I got a window broken out twice, I guess by people looking for change or sellables. No possessions were visible; once they took a flashlight from the glove box, once they got nothing at all.

I stopped locking my car and stopped having to replace windows.

Not at the moment, no. I love gassers, and a 1939-41 Gasser Willys look the best IMO. Not very practical by today's standards but the cool factor is off the charts.

Check out this article: not my blog but you can see the Willys. I spent about a week up here, coffee country (Zona Cafetera) in Colombia, near Salento. Gorgeous area, Willys are used everywhere: https://seecolombia.travel/blog/2011...helper-willys/
