I noticed something in a post on the general Texas forum... seattlerain said that PNW'ers didn't eat black eyed peas up in the Seattle area. We did every year - for New Years.... but that was it. We hever had a problem finding them though - grocery stores are stocked with them year round.

Do you eat black eyed peas?

Oh no, you found my other hangout...lol

I eat them, but my maternal grandmother was from North Carolina and my mother cooked much like here mother did.

Nobody I know who doesn't have a Southern background eats black-eyed peas.

Perhaps I should have said that they are not as popular here as in the South.

As far as I know, eating black-eyed peas on New Years is not a widespread tradition outside of the South...unless you have a Southern background.

Can't say that I've ever tried them. Are they Fergalicious?

Made right, black eyed peas are amazingly good. Not made right, they're boring.

Black eyed peas is a big thing for blacks whether you come from the south or not. I cook them every year on new years day. I must say though, this year after work I stopped at both QFC and Safeway in dt Bellevue and neither had them. Didn't run out, they just don't sell them. So that night I stopped in Safeway on Madison in Seattle and there they were. Tons of them.
