Hello,

I am a 44 year old woman and Single. I currently live in Chicago.

I am thinking of moving to Seattle. I have visited the Pacific Northwest in the past. My brother has lived in Seattle and now in Oregon and I just love what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. What is the single scene like in Seattle for my age range?

I appreciate any information.

I don't have any date in the near future in mind to move. I just am in the research stage at this point.

Thanks,

Paula

You should be OK. I read for every 100 single women in Seattle there are 119 single men and that number is getting better for women going forward as tech hiring ( brogrammers) is still strong.

This city is infamous for women being kind of flakey. If you're a standup kind of person, you will be fondly remembered for years.

OP, there isn't much of a singles scene in Seattle, for your age group. Or for any age group, due to the fact that it's a very reserved culture, so people aren't friendly or naturally "neighborly" and chatty when out and about. Your best bet would be to join hobby groups, outdoor activity groups (you could have luck with the main hiking club in the area), get involved in the bookstore scene (author events, etc.) and that sort of thing.

The other question is, can you afford Seattle? Have you looked at housing costs? What job sector are you in?
