Anyone has pics? How do Seattlites feel about the growing numbers of palm trees as of late. I've lived in this city for 25 years and I noticed in the last 10-15 years there is starting to be more and more of them growing. I actually like it but some of my friends thinks it doesn't represent Seattle. How do you guys feel?

Here is a site with pics of Palm trees in Seattle.

I only have this picture from Bellevue, but you're right they are all over.

I personally think the palm trees fit right in in Seattle. The city has so many different species of trees, and palm trees just add to the diversity!

I think they're cheesy. They don't do well here, they always look sickly and short, and they're completely out of place.

Depends on the variety. I've got a palm in my front yard that is thriving. might be out of place, but not more so than any of the other odd plants surrounding my house.

Well, some folks and their houses are just a wee bit odder than most, eh Laddie?

I think that, given our climate, there's nothing natural about palm trees here. I think any that are here were painstakingly planted and nurtured by deranged aliens from bizarre sun-afflicted planets.

I hate palm trees, of all types. Oh that's a surprise! They all look fake to me -- like someone wanted to invent an "easy" tree and ran out of imagination.

I love palm trees, but they look a little funky up here. There's something unnatural about a palm tree with snow on it.

I like 'em. Not only do they add to the quirkiness of the area, but also show that Seattle really does have a mild climate year-round. (Palms do well in wet, mild temps, sunshine has little to do with it).

hideous. They don't seem to do well in our climate either. Someone out here in West Seattle has two dead palm trees in front of their house. I wish they would get rid of them.

Again, some varieties of palms trees do very well in this climate. If you're going to plant a palm around here, make sure that you find a hardy variety.

It took me a while to get used to them around here. As a kid, I don't remember seeing any. Can't wait to come back and see 'em again!
