A majority of Seattle's African-born population comes from Ethiopia and Somalia, with Eritrea, Sudan, and neighboring countries represented as well. Many Ethiopian Seattle families are second generation now. Here is a good article and link to help you understand more. https://www.historylink.org/File/9615

Very interesting article. I think Ethiopian and Somalian people are some of the most beautiful on earth. One of our Ethiopian clients had a dinner party in January and served some of the most delicious dishes I've ever eaten and were very gracious hosts.

I worked with a guy from Ethiopia in the medical field at a clinic in Lenexa, Kansas. He went to community college to learn his skill in Johnson County, Kansas, just on the edge of Kansas City. I worked for 8 months with him, and I miss him to this day. He was a wonderful, kind, person, who is not afraid to lend a hand to someone who needs it.

He was in America for years while his wife was still back in Ethiopia. They eventually got a clearance for her to come over to America. They were thrilled, and us, his co-workers, were thrilled for them!

Well said, Elk. I get so sick of people saying we have no diversity in Seattle. East Africans are generally delightful people, we have 45,000 people from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan. Probably the same numbers or more of people from Asian countries (Vietnam, Korea, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, India, Thailand, China), good sized Latin American community too. Doesn't matter though, some moron will very soon again say how there is no diversity of thought, color, ethnicity in this area. It's just not true.

It’s really funny, when I moved here from Kansas City I felt a little homesick for a while. But one thing both cities have in common is a very robust Horn of Africa community. I went to a really good Ethiopian restaurant here and it reminded me of my favorite place in KC. Sort of brought me back there and made me feel better.

Blue fox, there are probably 15 good Ethiopian restaurants in Seattle. Try this little hole in the wall Ras Dashen, it's one of my faves. I've traveled Ethiopia, the food at this place is pretty authentic: https://www.rasdashenseattle.com

Some people view complaining as something as important as food to them. I'd say everyone does it, it's just that some do it more than others. Seattle is well-covered in immigrant population. And I think that's a nice thing. And man, 15 Ethiopian restaurants in Seattle!

My brother just married a lady from Ethopia. It was the most amazing wedding I have ever attended. The new in-laws are all fantastic people and the food they prepared...just wow! A three day wedding/feast/dance party. Never took part in anything like it

Awesome! I will have to check it out, it’s just down the street from me. As a vegetarian I love that they have so many veg options.
