So I had planned to move to Seattle later this year...but things didn't quite work that way. About 2 weeks ago I found out that the room I had been renting out in a very nice part of the Bronx was illegal. There were 2 inspections conducted in the same week. A 3rd was to take place but things changed abruptly and with great suspicion. The woman I'd been renting from has been shown to be a liar and mentally unstable so I felt that it was best to leave. I was also not interested in staying in nyc's shelters again which was where I was pretty much headed. And there is even far fewer affordable options that I've seen compared to Seattle (yes I am aware it's expensive but it's still cheaper than nyc in all aspects and I have found more apartments with reasonable prices) Rather than find another room which would be time consuming and likely eat up my funds...I simply decided to just move up my move date to Seattle.

I have called a few home care agencies and got solid responses from 2 of them. Got 2 interviews next week although one agency hires remotely meaning I could have a job before I get here.

I'm going to have around 3k when I get here. I am staying at a hostel for a week. Reason why I did it was I wanted to make sure I had a job before I put more money down for a long term place. As far as places to stay...I am pretty much over roommates and have had issues with bumping into older, ocd and weird women in their 50s who couldn't keep a man. I've already checked craigslist and roommate sites and all the people just strike me as weird or they are a bit too old for my liking (I'm 25 and would rather have roommates around my age but they are hard to find).

The thing I am highly considering are extended stays which I wouldn't have much trouble affording and saving and the Vermont Inn. What suggestions do you guys have? I think in the long term I would want to end up staying in North Seattle because you get a reasonable amount of space for what you are paying, to me anyway.

I'm very good at budgeting and I think I'm literally going to go one week without a paycheck.

Wow. Scary and exciting. I remember when I did the same thing in my 20s and came to Seattle with $150 and a dream. Your $3000 is at least something and your careful budgeting will help. I think you are on the right track about North Seattle, maybe check Bitter Lake (like 125th and Greenwood Ave) and Victory Heights (125th ish and Roosevelt) for more reasonable prices on places..

Yea. My biggest worry is when I stay in the hostel and making sure no one tries to steal my wallet and credit card. It is a bit scary and the rooming part is the biggest thing. I've never had my own place before but if I don't get one this month I can probably try for it in May. I believe that's right around the time school ends and hopefully stuff should be opening up. And I'm assuming people like to move to Seattle in the summer.

I did check the weather and I'm going to miss out on the sun. But I literally have no opinion or experience living somewhere with weather like Seattle's.

An old rule from my backpacking abroad in hostels days (which I still do sometimes just for fun): keep your wallet/moneybelt with you at all times. When you sleep, keep it under your mattress or pillow.

This is a good low cost option in the nice part of Capitol Hill that is probably better than a hostel.

Sounds like you're looking for your own space. Rentals in the Seattle area are very competitive and often require first/last month deposit plus proof of employment, application fees etc can overwhelm 3k easily before you even move in. Best of luck to you but if you're headed for a min wage job in the Seattle area, I don't see how someone can pull off that plus a single apartment (not shared with roommates).

You obviously didn't read my post. I said I am a NURSE. If I were working min wage wouldn't come here.

Yea you're right about the apartments. I have found the OK hotel and Vermont Inn as the cheapest options. They seem to offer month to month. Initially I did try airbnb but got discouraged when I was turned down for a room. And I'm a POC and have heard of horror stories. And frankly a lot of the people that have something available. Seem like weirdos. With my job and overtime I am confident that I'll have enough to put down for an apartment in a month. I may start with a micro studio.

But if there isn't any other suggestions I'll do an extended stay for the next month or two or one of those two places I've found.

In which post? Unless my eyes are going funny this morning, I didn't see the word nurse mentioned at all.

One of the people working for me is at about $55,000 and has had no problem affording a 1 bedroom in the Greenlake area.

Sorry must have confused it with another post. But yeah ai will be making in the mid 50s or even 60s (since I do want to pay debt and build up a bigger savings). I also have the option to work 10 or 12 hour shifts so extra pay won't be too difficult to come by. At one of the agencies they also offer a noc differential by like $2. Haven't asked the other one.

I have also been looking in Lake City as well. That's something that's been coming up in my search a lot.
