Not just *cold* environments, but cold damp ones. There is a huge difference in this case, as the dampness provides the accomodations for viruses and disease.

And yes, it's not the RAIN people, it's the cold, damp (very humid) weather. This just happens to top my personal list, as I would suspect it does most who agree that Seattle is not the greatest place to raise children. I'm not a weather expert but I think that environments that have a real winter, tend to "cleanse" their environment in a way. Because Seattle only has two seasons, gray gloom and summer, it doesn't really get the "cleansing" that an honest winter brings.

Having said that, this past winter was the best one we've had yet here. It snowed 50% more than average and was colder than normal. I won't complain about this past winter very much (even though I'm doing it right now).

Actually, I always thought it was a myth that getting chilled can cause you to catch a cold and I just saw one of those "True or False?" articles saying that the most recent scientific studies conclude that getting cold DOES increase your chance of getting sick.

It also said that going outside with wet hair is a risk factor. I grew up insisting to my father that it was fine for me to wash my hair and then go directly outside and he used to become so upset with me. Turns out he was probably right!
