Despite decades of trying to get recognition, the Duwamish have been shined on by both federal and city authorities.

Do people here know about Real Rent Duwamish?

Do people here realize that although their leader Chief Seattle signed the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855, they never received any reservation land?

It seems that the non-natives in the city named for the Duwamish chief, whose land was stolen (just read the treaty and see if you wouldn't consider it a "steal") and on which the city has been built have no clue nor care that the survivors of the slaughter of their tribe have never gotten meaningful consideration from their invaders.

Am I wrong? Hopefully so. If so, where can I find people who care about them?

Somewhat difficult to gather interest on this important subject some 160 years later, but I appreciate your post. This topic has played out throughout the country for many in various native communities.

For what it is worth, I think the Seattle area has been more considering of the native communities than most around the country. I know it has little importance today, but so many of the native "names" have been retained in the area out of respect, I hope.

But thanks for bringing up an important part of Seattle history.

Sad, sad story millard. At end of post is the Duwamish Tribe's website, "they are still here". They were screwed, plain and simple. Many of us here in Seattle choose to pay "rent" and acknowledge and that we (collectively) are on their ancestral lands. Here is the link: https://www.duwamishtribe.org

Neat looking event at the longhouse tomorrow (Friday), actually: https://www.duwamishtribe.org/events...nce-experience
