I would agree that Eastern Washington residents should not be taxed generally for Western Washington projects. This is easier said than done, though Sound Transit isn't costing Eastern Washington a cent. So there may be solutions here.

But again, HSR is probably pie in the sky at this point. As a couple of posters stated, we can't even agree to a new I-5 bridge at Vancouver, WA due to light rail disagreements. I can't even imagine HSR disputes and the extreme high cost of such. While Washington is not California, we should look at their imminent failure as a warning.

When I lived there and made the Amtrak trip to BC a few times, customs/immigration stuff was done off-train, and DEA walked a dog down the aisle while the train was traveling between Vancouver and the first US stop. So the train schedule was not impacted.

I do hope that they wouldn't be planning to run the HSR tracks in the same corridor where the Amtrak service between Seattle and Everett gets shut down by mudslides for a week every single winter.
