Hello!
We currently live in Spokane WA ( yes...it is a real place and on the map!). My husband may have an opportunity in Kent. We are looking at housing options and it seems Maple Valley might be a good fit. How is the commute going into Kent at 5:30am and coming home at 4pm? What other options would be good for a family that homeschools and wants to live in a safe area? We need a 2200 SF home minimum. We may also have to drive into Seattle once a week for piano lessons.

Thanks!

Hi HappyDay,

Yes, we Westsiders know Spokane is real . I have some good friends who own a beautiful home in South Hill.

I think Maple Valley would be a great choice, not a bad commute at all. If you decide to switch at some point to public, the Tahoma school district is highly regarded.

I live in Maple Valley and commute to Kent. 30ish morning commute for me. 40-45 minutes in the afternoon. I have to take 516 most of the way which is all stop lights. So it’s hit or miss.

So do you take 516 because it is faster than other routes or is that the best direct route for you? What about 240th over? That it is pretty much a straight shot to my husbands job is located off the 167 past W James St. Also, how do you like Maple Valley?

516 is slow especially in the evening. 256th or 240th are much better.

I take 516 because I drop my son off at Lake Wilderness Elementary first, then I take highway 18 to 516 to 116th into Kent. I work at an Elementary school in Kent. I’ve never tried 240...maybe I will one day. I’m new to the area from Texas so I just type in the address into my GPS and go!!

We like MV. It’s a good area for families and was the best fit for us coming from Dallas/FW. Everyone so far seems nice and welcoming. Good schools. My son really likes his school and teacher. So no complaints!!

A lot of locals complain about the roads bc they are building like crazy in Black Diamond, so that will cause congestion

It was hard spending So much more for a house on a tiny lot though. Sticker shock coming from the south. LOL But we are over that now. Much cheaper here compared to Issaquah/Bellevue though.

Yeah, so far. But I’m still new to Maple Valley so I cant say with 100% confidence yet. We Just moved here from Texas this summer. People seem a little more laid back like I’m used to in the south. I haven’t seen the the fake ‘Seattle Freeze’ attitudes like I’ve seen in other areas.

It does sound like the best option for us. We are looking for a safe community to raise my kids, but also not so long of a commute. We are from California originally, then moved to Spokane, We lived in the bay area for a while....talk about sticker shock! Ughh
